Chambliss Martin Runoff

It can not be a huge deal, but today, Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss defeated Democratic challenger Jim Martin in a runoff election (since neither man won a majority on November 4 while Chambliss has won the majority). While the race was in Georgia, a very conservative state, but I think it shows us something about the political climate this year. Chambliss essentially demolished his opponent, winning by about 20%.

Now, what the press does not tell you at the outset, is that President-elect Barack Obama campaigned for his trouble Colleage in Georgia, but Martin was very supportive of Gore, Kerry, etc.. Democratic participation in elections has been remarkably low.

This is safe to say that without the major boost Obama predicted, the Democrats can not really influence public opinion as effective? In addition, this election really refutes the idea that the Republican party is dead, because without their standard-bearer, the excitement is remarkably low for the Democrats.

I think it is fair to say that the Republicans' frantic efforts pay, giving them seats to filibuster, if necessary. God thank you! I cringe to think what this country would have been made if the Democrats had everything their way. Maybe that means, I hope that voters are beginning to realize they were when the press urged them to vote Republican in protest in 2006.
