Credit Card Reduction

I am a company intends to use the reduction of department to reduce the principal of my credit cards. They argue that the credit card companies just out by negotiating lower balances low and get those balances paid immediately. I know it hurts credit, but those after a few years and have a better ratio of debt that my credit will improve.
Has anyone used these companies and what were your results.
