I do not think you will get a green card for a stay of only 8 months. I think what you want is a temporary work permit visa. If you have a green card which makes you a lawful permanent resident of the United States and as such have all the rights of a citizen except the right to vote. In this case, you can get loans and credit and all other rights accruing to a resident of the United States.
