Study abroad - be it a student from the United States traveling to another country or a foreign student traveling to study in the United States - is becoming increasingly popular over the years. Studies show that over two hundred thousand students studying in the United States abroad each year, while nearly six hundred thousand foreign students seeking to attend college in the United States. The only problem is the consideration of financial assistance, as it applies to international students. Fortunately, there are now loans to international students designed to help students from the United States for study abroad and help foreign students to study in the United States. In fact, international studies are becoming so popular that most international programs for student loans also help students from Canada to study elsewhere and foreign students studying in Canada.

As mentioned, there are student loans available to international students wishing to study in both the United States or Canada. The number of students worldwide who want to do that increases exponentially each year. In general, foreign students wishing to apply for loans to international students must meet the eligibility requirements and certain criteria, such as, their school of choice must be a TERI-approved school. In addition, the student must have someone in the U.S. who is willing to cosign the loan.

For students from the United States and Canada who want to study abroad, there are an incredible number of options for loans to international students . There are study abroad loans, which apply to students who are U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are currently enrolled at the school where they attend the United States. This loan is excellent for students who intend to study abroad for a short period of time - one or two semesters.

Foreign loans are enrolled international student loans available to U.S. citizens and residents who wish to receive a degree from a school outside the United States - as it is an accredited school. This program provides funding for the entire duration of a student's academic career.

The ever popular Stafford loans are also available, either U.S. citizens or non-citizens who meet the eligibility criteria (ie permanent residents). It applies to students wishing to study abroad while still enrolled in a college or university in the United States, but also for students wishing to enroll in an approved international school.

Scholarships and grants are also available for students wishing to study abroad or here in the United States. However, they are often not sufficient to cover the amount of money a student needs. The purpose of loans to international students is to try to bridge the gap and ensure that students wishing to study elsewhere will have the finances and resources to do so. In recent years, studies abroad has been difficult because of high cost, but with the desire to study abroad go up every year, there are more and more loans become available to international students each year counterpoint.
