Small Company Funds What are the legal consequences of a small business owner spending the money of the society for their personal expenses? Instead of posting a question on Yahoo ... you should be in contact with your attorney or tax guru! Seriously, it depends on how you talk about small and of course if you own the company outright. If this is your case and you own one, I'm sure you can find loopholes to write from the "personal expenses as business expenses ... although I'm not sure how you could be successful if you continue to do so! It depends on the structure of the company. If a corporation with shareholders, the owner is breaking the law. If the company is organized as a sole proprietorship, the owner can do whatever he wants. If you move while profits at your discretion. However, if you spend money on personal expenses and claiming them as business expenses could cause you trouble with the IRS. Posted on January 12, 2010.
